For the purposes of this study, media groups which were previously owned by Ethem Sancak and sold to Zeki Yeşildağ in 2017 were combined into a loose name as Türk Medya Group. The majority of T Medya Yatırım Sanayi shares belong to TM Medya and Türk Medya Group which has three newspapers, three TV channels, two radio stations, and two magazines. Moreover, Alem Radyo ve Televizyon Yayıncılık Anonim Şirketi, Atlas Yayıncılık ve Ticaret Anonim Şirketi, Star Medya Yayıncılık Anonim Şirketi,Star Medya Ajans A.Ş., Star Matbaacılık A.Ş. and Dinamik Radyo A.Ş, all, belong to Türk Medya Group. 100% of Türk Medya Group is now owned by Zeki Yeşildağ. T Medya Yatırım Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş has a capital close to 766 million Turkish Liras.
In December 2019, Güneş and Star newspapers belonging to TürkMedya group were closed. Güneş newspaper is published as a supplement to the Akşam newspaper, which belongs to the same group. Akşam newspaper is in the list of top ten newspapers in 2020.

Born in 1958 in Siirt, Ethem Sancak graduated from Istanbul University's communications faculty in 1976. He started a small medicine business in the 80s which grew to an internationally operating conglomerate including a hospital chain. His media group owns three national newspapers, 3 television channels, 2 radio channels and 2 magazines as well as websites. Sancak is openly very supportive of the ruling AKP and the President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. He has famously said he was "in love" with Erdoğan and would sacrifice his family for him, and has admitted to having entered media to support him. Sancak owns all shares of 'ES Yönetim Danışmanlığı', which is the main shareholder of the company (T Medya) that has over 765 million Turkish Liras in capital and publishes Güneş and Akşam newspapers. In 2013, he bought Güneş, Akşam, Sky360 TV, along with two radio channels and various magazines from the Savings Deposit Insurance Fund (TMSF), which had seized it from Çukurova Group. In leaked phone conversations attributed to Sancak, he can be heard complaining that he had to acquire bankrupted media outlets. In 2014, he also acquired all shares of the Star Media Group (that owns Star Newspaper and 24 TV) from businessman Fettah Tamince. He has taken an ombudsman (Demokrasi Hakem Kurulu) position in AKP since 2012. He has also purchased BMC (via a public tender where he was the only participant in 2014), a company that has won many tenders including producing tanks and water cannons for the Turkish army and police. He has served as the Brazilian honorary consul of Istanbul. He's the Vice Chairman in the Board of Directors in Istanbul Modern Museum of Art in the Board of Directors of Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV).

Hasan Yeşildağ, brother of Zeki Yeşildağ, is known with his close ties with Erdoğan. Based on the book, "Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Bir Liderin Doğuşu" by Hüseyin Besli, AKP's 22nd term parliament, Hasan Yeşildağ is said to have committed a crime on purpose, just to be jailed for four months in order to protect Erdoğan in prison.

Records reveal that the group's biggest company, T Medya Yatırım Sanayi (capital close to 766 million Turkish Liras) is 95% owned by Es Yayıncılık, which is a subsidiary of Es Yönetim Danışmanlığı, and was entirely owned by Zeki Yeşildağ. On July 30, 2018, the name "ES Yayıncılık ve Medya Yatırım Hizmetleri Anonim Şirketi" was changed into the "TM Yayıncılık ve Medya Yatırım Hizmetleri Anonim Şirketi"
