Sözcü
Founded in June 2007 by Burak Akbay, daily newspaper Sözcü is one of the best selling newspapers in Turkey. It’s known for its loud and Kemalist critique of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the ruling AKP.
According to the data of the BIA Media Monitoring Report for 2020, the Press Advertisement Institution imposed a total of 276 days of cutting advertisements for newspapers, including Sözcü newspaper, in 2020, due to their critical publications.
Sözcü newspaper was affiliated with the Estetik Yayıncılık until it was transferred to BEME Media A.G. in 2019.

Born in 1971 in Istanbul, Burak Akbay attended the American College of Switzerland. His first business was starting a newspaper printing press. He founded Sözcü newspaper in 2007. He owns all the shares of Estetik Yayıncılık A.Ş., the company that publishes the newspaper 'Sözcü' as well as its website sozcu.com.tr. He used to be the Chair of the Board of Directors of Estetik Yayıncılık until June 2016, when he resigned. However, he still appears as the publisher ('imtiyaz sahibi'). He's also the head of the Board of Directors of BAK Medya ve Yayıncılık Hizmetleri A.Ş. company, which was registered in the Turkish Trade Registry Gazette in July 2016 under the category 'television broadcasting'.
Sözcü newspaper, Korkusuz newspaper, GırGır, Sözcü TV and sozcu.com.tr transferred to Beme Media A.G, which was established in Switzerland in 2019. Burak Akbay is the member of the Board of Directors of BEME Media A.G.
