In March 2018, the Demirören Group purchased all the media assets of the Doğan Group for $ 916 million. Demirören Group was the owner of the Milliyet newspaper and Vatan newspaper. After purchasing the media assets of Doğan Group, the Group now owns 5 newspapers, including Hürriyet, Hürriyet Daily News, Posta and Fanatik; it has a news agency (DHA), a distribution company (YAYSAT), two TV channels (Kanal D and CNNTURK). The Vatan daily was closed on October 31, 2018 and continues publishing digitally as gazetevatan.com.
Demirören Group A.Ş.'s capital is 150 million Turkish Liras. Its shares entirely are owned by the Demirören Family, which openly supports the ruling AKP and has close ties with President Tayyip Erdoğan. Demirören family is active in the sector in the sector such as media, energy, mining and construction.

If the allegations that Demirören Group decided to close the Yaysat were correct, the print media will only distributed by Turkuvaz Medya of Kalyon Group. However, Demirören Group neither confirmed nor refuted this claim.
Yelda Demirören, the daughter of Yıldırım Demirören, the Chair of the Board of Directors of Demirören Holding, and Haluk Kalyoncu (the son of Hasan Kalyoncu, the founder of the Kalyon Group) got married on April 13, 2019. President Erdoğan and his wife Emine Erdoğan were the marriage witnesses. The marriage was reported as the company marriage of Turkuvaz and Demirören Groups.

Yıldırım Demirören, the son of Erdoğan Demirören, was born in 1964 in Istanbul. He was the president of Beşiktaş sports club from 2004 to 2012, and since 2012 he's the president of the Turkish Football Federation. He's one of the shareholders, and the Head of the Board of Directors, of the conglomerate 'Demirören Holding A.Ş.' which holds the majority shares of the companies that publish Milliyet, Hürriyet, Posta and Fanatik newspapers and online gazetevatan.com. He's also in the board of directors of many companies owned by the Demirören Family. He attended President Erdoğan's daughter's wedding on May 2016. Yıldırım Demirören was elected as the board of chairman of Demirören Holding after his father Erdoğan Demirören passed away on June, 2018.

Fikret Tayfun Demirören, the son of Erdoğan Demirören, has a degree in Finance from Bilkent University. He's one of the shareholders of the conglomerate 'Demirören Holding A.Ş.' that holds the majority shares of both companies that publish Hürriyet, Milliyet, and Posta newspapers and gazetevatan.com. He sits on the boards of many companies owned by the group such as Total Oil. Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, then Prime Minister, was the witness at his wedding in 2003. Tayfun attended President Erdoğan's daughter's wedding in May 2016.

Meltem Oktay, the daughter of Erdoğan Demirören, is one of the shareholders of the conglomerate 'Demirören Holding A.Ş.' which holds the majority shares of the companies that publish Hürriyet, Milliyet, and Posta newspapers and online gazetevatan.com. She is the vice president of the executive board of Demirören Holding. She sits on the Board of Directors in many of the firms owned by the group, including Total Oil.
