He was hit by a record $2.5bn tax fine, sending its shares down 20 percent after a year-long confrontation with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Born in 1963 in Denizli, Bülent Ayanoğlu graduated from Ankara University's Communications Faculty. He started working as a reporter for Türkiye Daily in 1976 and held various editorial and managing positions until leaving to head the news deparment of TGRT TV. In 1996, he became the Assistant General Manager at TGRT and the following year, at İhlas Net A.Ş., where he worked on the live news site. In 2007, he became Türkiye newspaper’s chief editor. He served as TGRT Haber TV’s General Manager between 2011 and 2013. He worked for TRT World's education department before becoming the Editor in Chief of Milliyet and Vatan newspapers' websites in June 2016.
He is the digital content manager of the digital publications of the Demirören Gazetecilik.
