Kanal D was founded by Ayhan Şahenk and Aydın Doğan in 1993. Kanal D Euro (Euro D) was launched in 1996. Kanal D Romania started running in 2007.

According to Article 434 of Turkish Commercial Code, shareholders in corporations ('Anonim Şirket’) use their voting rights in proportion with their shares’ nominal value. Each shareholder has at least one vote, however voting rights might be limited, or given more weight with articles of association. Moreover, public companies may issue shares without voting rights according to Article 14/A of Capital Markets Law.

Ayhan Şahenk: He founded Dogus Holding in 1975 which operates in finance, automotive, construction, media, tourism, energy, real estate, food and retail sectors. Şahenk became a shareholder with Aydın Doğan for DTV Haber ve Görsel Yayıncılık (Kanal D) in 1993. He transfered his shares to Doğan Group in 1995. Aydın Doğan: He is the founder and honorary chairman of Doğan Holding. He founded his first industrial company in 1974. He became a publisher with the acquisition of Milliyet in 1979 and later on Hürriyet in 1994. He established Aydın Doğan Foundation in 1996. He hit with a record $2.5bn tax fine, sending its shares down 20 per cent after a year-long confrontation with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Arzuhan Doğan Yalçındağ, CEO of Doğan TV Holding and board member of Doruk Televizyon ve Radyo Yayıncılık A.Ş., DTV Haber ve Görsel Yayıncılık A.Ş., Eko TV Televizyon ve Radyo Yayıncılık A.Ş., Doğan Holding A.Ş., Adilbey Holding A.Ş. She is daughter of Aydın Doğan, founder of Doğan Holding. became the CFO of Milliyet Magazine Group. She then joined Kanal D in 1996. CNN Turk was launched as a result of her negotiations with Time Warner Group. In 2005, she became the CEO of Doğan TV Holding. In 2007, she was elected as the first female President of the country’s leading business organization, TÜSİAD.

Süleyman Sarılar studied journalism at Istanbul University. He was the news director of CNN Türk (2004-2007) and Kanal D (2007-2012). He became the Editor in Chief of Kanal D in 2012.
